NEW RUSSIAN MILLS FOR FINE AND ULTRAFINE GRINDING

©  V. B. Kvasha, I. K. Ermolin

NEW RUSSIAN TECHNIQUE OF FINE AND ULTRAFINE GRINDING

New highly efficient "RIM" mill for continuous fine and ultra fine grinding of solids and cellular structures has been developed.

The experience in grinding of different classes of materials using this mill reveals it is significance technological advantages compared to the well-known mills. Wide us of "RIM" mills provides high technology and essential saving of resourses within the framework of nonwaste technology development. The list of technological processes sucsessfully carried out due to the use of "RIM" mills is given below:

  • Preparation of paints and varnishes for automobile, printing, textile, construction industries, etc.
  • Preparation of finely divided fillers for man-made fibres and polymers.
  • Preparation of finely-divided ion exchange resins, mica, and other materials.
  • Preparation of additives based on molybdenum disulphide for automobile oils.
  • Processes of homogenious mixing of dispersed materials, preparation of suspensions and emulsions, materials for stomatologi.
  • etc.

NEW GENERATION OF INDASTRIAL AND LABORATORY MILLS
FOR DRY AND WET GRINDING OF MATERIALS
HAVING DIFFERENT CLASSES OF HANDRES.
("RIM" MILL)

The mill of a rotor-inertia type ("RIM") is a sectional apparatus where in grinding of materials which differ singificanty in their handress and other physical-chemical properties is carried out through shear and bursting stressesgenerated directly on the material being ground. it is desing allows to create practically and power intensity on the working volume wich ensures fine dry or wet grinding batchwise or continously.

The grinding of materials by the mill is made in the "RIM" in trinkness layer. Diameter, drive power, number of sections and capacity of "RIM" industrial mill is defined by a specific process technology.

The practicle size of the ground material is 0.5 - 5.0 mm; if necessery the material with narrow size range may be obtained.

Technical characteristecs of "RIM" industrial mills
for fine drinding.

  Apparatus diameter   up to 500 mm
  Drive power   up to 22 kw
  Capacity   up to 200 kg/hour
  Practicle size of the pulverised material   up to 5 mm
  Particle size of finished product   up to 10 mkm

Design Principles of Operation And Use of "RIM" Inertia Mills

"RIM" mills for fine and ultrafine drinding of different classes of materials is sectional apparatus equipped with a drive shaft and operating bodies (OB). The shaft rotation ensures vibrating (sign-changing) movement of OB about it's axis and combination of bursting and shear stress. The advantages of "RIM" mills is as follows:

  • Opportunity of fine and ultrafine grinding of a wide variety of materials (granulal solids, cellular structures, etc.) up to submicron sizes;
  • Rotor self-centering OB vibrations and resulting disadvantages typical of conical inertia crushers and vibromills;
  • Sectionalization of the apparatus ensures fine and ultrafine grinding of a material as a result of wich preset narrow range of particles sizes is ashieved;
  • "RIM" mills are suitable for dry and wet grinding;
  • Opportunity of creating practically unlimited bursting and shear stress;
  • Adsence of hydraulic drives;
  • Versatility of "RIM" mill with complete sealing of the working volume;
  • Clearance between OB of the mills is maintained automatically irrespective of the wear degree of OB;
  • The mill is easily built into technological lines of the exiting plants;
  • If necessery, the mill working volume may be cooled by any coolant without contact with the material being ground.

All the above advantages of "RIM" mill ensure it's excellent performance and are combined with it's simple design and low cost wich makes "RIM" mill very attractive both for industry people and for researchers.
